On Tuesday April 9 at 8pm, please join us at the Surrey Urban Screen for a special screening of Liquid Landscapes.
Inspired by photographs of seven geographic sites around Surrey (Serpentine River, Redwood Park, Crescent Beach, Nicomekl River, Boundary Bay, Serpentine Fen and Fraser River)
Liquid Landscapes features a series of seven animations created specifically for the Urban Screen. Translating each location into a series of colours, motions and shapes,
Sassoon’s abstract animations offer up impressions of Surrey’s natural environment while alluding to how digital images shape our experiences of the landscape.
Seven local music producers and sound artists (Yu Su (You’re Me), J.S. Aurelius (Ascetic House), Jean Brazeau, Scott Woodworth, Baby Blue (s.M.i.L.e),
Venetta (NuZi Collective), and x/o (Quantum Natives, Eternal Dragonz, s.M.i.L.e)) were invited to create audio responses to each of the animations.
These audio responses will be played alongside each animation from Liquid Landscapes throughout the evening.
This event is part of Capture Photography Festival and was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Surrey Art Gallery.
Liquid Landscapes was curated by Rhys Edwards and features an exhibition essay available here. Prior to this event,
the animations created by students from a Youth Animation workshop led by Nicolas Sassoon will be played on the Urban Screen.
Surrey Urban Screen is located at the Chuck Bailey Recreation Center, right outside Gateway Skytrain Station.
